Rock TrenchersOne of Springfield’s specialty services is the ability to trench through solid rock. SCI is one of few contractors in the eastern U.S. to own and operate hydrostatic rocksaws or “rock trenchers.” The company owns TRS-1000 and TRS-900 TESMECs, M3 and M5 Mechanical Trenchers, and has access to a variety of other size trenchers.
The trenchers cut through most rock as easily as other equipment goes through dirt. Rock trenching provides a narrow, smooth trench compared to the alternate method of drilling and blasting, which disturbs more earth and creates an irregular trench. The trencher grinds the rock into particles about the size of crusher run and deposits them with the excavated soil to be used as backfill for the trench; as opposed to hauling away blasted rock and bringing in additional suitable backfill. Trenches that have been blasted tend to settle and create ruts, whereas clean narrow trenches created by a trencher do not. We lease the rock trenchers to contractors and utility companies on an hourly basis. The lease agreement includes the equipment and operator, as well as mobilization/demobilization. The lessee is responsible for fuel and replacement of worn carbide teeth. Please contact us for rates and more information. |
